Even before agile work organizations had the chance to comprehensively demonstrate their performance, the first companies began turning their backs with disappointment. The reason: They have not managed to change the mindset of their employees and executives beyond the initial introduction of agile methods. How companies can make the step from “Doing Agile” to “Being Agile” was one of the main topics at the BestPractice Day this year held by business consultancy Staufen. More than 330 executives came to Darmstadt this year again for Europe’s leading Lean Congress.

The upheaval of the economy and of business is accelerating, but German companies are having an increasingly difficult time dealing with disruption. This is what the second iteration of the “Change Readiness Index” shows – it has fallen from 58 to 55 points as compared to 2017. To compile this scale whose top score is 100 points, Staufen surveyed more than 400 top executives of German companies as part of its “Success in Change” study.

The aerospace industry in Germany is optimistic about the future and expects full order books to prevail. There is, however, a definite need for action when it comes to digitization: more than 80 percent of companies attach great importance to technological change, although measurable productivity gains and successful digital business models are still the exception. These are the results of the study “Aerospace 2019 – Leadership in Times of Change”. Management consultants Staufen, together with the German Aerospace Industries Association (Bundesverband der Deutschen Luft- und Raumfahrtindustrie e.V. – BDLI), conducted a survey among the executives of BDLI member companies.

47 percent of managers in Germany are convinced that their own company is in great danger of disruption. As the “Change Readiness Index 2019” defined by the management consultancy Staufen shows, the fear of being ousted from the market by innovative developments has increased significantly. More than 400 top executives of German companies were surveyed for the index, as part of the “Success in Change” study. The complete survey will be presented at the beginning of July at “BestPractice Day 2019” – Europe’s leading lean management congress.

In addition to numerous jobs, at many companies, programs to enhance management culture are also being curtailed, as Staufen AG’s market analyses show. This is a risky game: for it’s precisely now that entirely different manager types and management qualities are needed than in previous years.
