More than 90 percent of German industrial companies now apply Lean Management methods. However, to date only one in five companies has really made their entire value creation chain efficient. This is the result of a current study of 180 companies by the Staufen AG consultancy. How companies successfully manage the transition to Industry 4.0 with the aid of Lean Management is one of the central topics at the BestPractice Day 2015 from 8 to 10 June.
Lean Management will become ever more important to industry in the future. Because in a Smart Factory, thinking in processes is crucial. Three of four companies are convinced: only Lean Management can create the prerequisites for the successful introduction of Industry 4.0.
“For that reason, companies must strive to advance the creation of efficient and effective processes,” explains Wilhelm Goschy, Executive Board member of Staufen AG. “Our study shows that companies have recognised the importance of Lean Management, but that there is still room for improvement in the implementation. For example, around 60 percent of companies apply Lean principles only in their production section.”
Lean transformation as the target – the path towards this goal is explained by numerous experts from academia and industry at the BestPractice Days. Key figures from the manufacturing industry share their expertise in presentations and discussions. They also open their factory gates. BestPractice visits to Trumpf, Recaro, Schott, Voith, Freudenberg or SEW-Eurodrive are part of the programme; participants can specifically select particular modules.
Whereas the focus on Days 1 and 3 of the conference is on workshops in companies, participants come together on Day 2 in the Darmstadt Congress Centre to exchange ideas in the plenary assembly or in specialised forums. One of the keynote speakers is Toyota-Kata expert Bill Costantino. From a slightly different perspective, Sascha Lobo, blogger and unorthodox thinker, and Slatko Sterzenbach, best-selling author and competitor in 17 ironmen triathlons, will also deal with the topics of Lean Management and Industry 4.0.
